Effects of Tart Cherry Ingestion on Food-Induced Serum Uric Acid Elevation

Help Assess Whether Tart Cherry Can Reduce the Increase in Uric Acid Following Consuming a Meal!

Men & Women Needed for a Study!

Researchers within the Human Clinical Research Facility (HCRF) at Texas A&M University are recruiting approximately 24 healthy males and females between 30 and 60 who have mildly elevated uric acid levels (determined during study screening) to examine if tart cherry can reduce the uricemic response to ingesting a high
purine containing meal. Five total visits over approximately four to six weeks will be required and this study involves blood draws. The first visit requires approximately one hour. The final four visits require approximately five hours each. Eligible participants will receive $400 after completing the entire study and after all study related documents (i.e., food logs, side-effects assessments, etc.) are returned.

The HCRF and the Exercise & Sport Nutrition Lab received approval to resume human participant research from the VPR’s office (June 1, 2020), Department of Health & Kinesiology (June 6, 2020), and College of Education and Human Development (June 17, 2020).
